AT FORMULATED MATERIALS WE REFUSE TO RELY ON 40 YR OLD TECHNOLOGIES

The last 40 years have seen an incredible advancement in almost every area of construction. New materials and methods are continuously being developed to improve durability, increase performance, and lower construction costs. At Formulated Materials, our commitment to innovation goes beyond a desire to enhance outdated technologies.

WE ARE DRIVEN TO DELIVER BETTER SOLUTIONS

From the development of our patented fully-automated, self-batching Smart Batch Pump to our Elevation wood-framed balcony waterproofing system (9 million square feet installed with no leaks), we have remained committed to that innovation. This drive to improve existing technologies has led us to develop the New R1 Acoustical Underlayment, engineered to provide real-world performance beyond the testing facility.

Q-Seam Technology

ENSURING PROPER INSTALLATION

The New R1 utilizes our new Q-Seam Technology. This advancement provides a robust and monolithic foundation for the underlayment and ensures proper installation. Underlayments are typically installed with seams abutted and taped together, but this method often leads to small gaps being left after taping. These unsupported gaps will push down as the underlayment is applied, providing a point of direct contact between the underlayment and the sub-floor assembly. These valleys destroy acoustical performance and can lead to premature floor failure. The New R1’s innovative Q- Seam Technology addresses this issue by ensuring each seam is tightly overlapped and fastened during installation.

59 STC / 54 IIC / 57 HIIC

INCREASED ACOUSTICAL PERFORMANCE

Unlike many of our competitor’s products, the new R1 was tested using standard 18″ truss joist assemblies spaced 24″ o.c, with standard single layer batt insulation. We even used a standard, unbacked 2.5mm glue-down vinyl plank when testing. Specifying the new Treadstone  R1 requires no changes to your plans to achieve the specification listed. Full sound test data is available by contacting Formulated Materials.

8-10x STRONGER THAN COMMONLY SPECIFIED MATS

THE NEW R1 DEFLECTS .07" AT 10,019SPF
(When tested per ASTM D1261).

Loading the floor to the point where this compression is possible will most likely cause more damage to the subassemblies than the underlayment itself. The building may well come down before the underlayment moves.

Unlike typical monofilament mats, The New R1’s rigid structure also resists localized compression under the weight of small point loads. This compression reduces the dead air required for proper sound attenuation and increases contact surface area between the mat and the floor, resulting in a reduction in acoustical performance.

The new R1 easily supports these loads from common items like loaded cabinets, refrigerators, washers, and other heavy appliances and furniture, ensuring that they will not impact acoustical performance.

LIGHTEN YOUR LOAD AND SPECIFY A 25% LIGHTER UNDERLAYMENT SYSTEM

The New R1 also delivers 59 STC / 53 IIC using just 3/4″ of fire-rated underlayment, 25% less material than what is required to deliver comparable performance from monofilament products. Thinner underlayment requirements reduce the dead-load on your flooring assemblies and bring the total system height to just 7/8″. Specifying the New R1, you can lighten the load on your structure, minimize settling, and even further decrease deflection due to load. In addition to the lighter load, a 3/4″ underlayment pour reduces curing time during the build, allowing you to get trades back on the floor more quickly during each phase. The New R1 installs faster, lighter, and stronger while still delivering outstanding acoustical performance.

ODOR AND MOISTURE PROTECTION

MORE THAN JUST A FIRE OR SOUND RATING

The New R1’s moisture impermeable membrane and Q Seam Technology create a monolithic barrier that provides additional protection from issues of localized flooding and odor transmission between adjacent units. Specifying R1 in kitchens can help to reduce complaints from cooking (and other) odors by providing an impermeable barrier to adjacent units. The New R1 installed bathrooms and utility rooms can help to minimize property damage due to localized flooding events, protecting adjacent units and reducing repair time and associated costs.

ENGINEERED FOR TODAY'S VINYL FLOORING

When specifying LVP and LVT on your projects, The New R1’s rigid structure addresses issues that will have a significant impact on your finished floors’ durability. While mass-spring technology offers reasonable initial performance, it relies on a rigid finished floor covering to provide dispersion of these heavy point loads, which will effectively reduce the pounds per square foot mentioned in deflection testing to pounds per square inch. The incredible deflection resistance offered by The New R1 ensures that typical heavy items like fully-loaded cabinets, refrigerators, washing machines, and other heavy appliances and furniture will not compress under these localized point loads or affect acoustical performance The New R1 offers superior long-term deflection resistance, ensuring continued performance of your finished floors.

95% POST CONSUMER RECYCLED CONTENT

THE NEW R1 IMPROVES MORE THAN JUST LIVING ENVIRONMENTS

Produced from 95% post-consumer recycled content, R1 delivers it’s amazing performance while reducing environmental impact. Not only will you be improving the living environment of future residents and tenants, you’ll be doing so knowing that you’re taking steps to minimize global environmental impact.
